You assist our practitioners chairside, and you are responsible for your own chair. The role is a varied one: depending on the day and the site, you work in orthodontics, in endodontics, in dental imaging or in emergencies.
We do not practise general dentistry: we work at specialist referral level, in three specialities and through a scheduled emergency appointments service. The pace is that of an appointment which starts and finishes at the time set for it.
You are not expected to cover everything from day one. You start with the area you already know, and the others are added through in-house training.
Your responsibilities
Welcome and chairside care
Prepare the chair and the tray for the procedure planned, before the patient arrives.
Check the following day’s patient records the day before: laboratory work, X-rays, latest imaging available.
Call the patient from the waiting room and settle them in, keeping to the appointment’s start and finish times.
Pick up on what the patient is telling you — fear, pain, a time constraint — and pass it on to the practitioner.
Report your observations to the practitioner: hygiene, cooperation, repairs, auxiliary appliances.
Assist the practitioner during the procedure and prepare the instruments as they are needed.
Explain the procedure carried out and the hygiene to follow to the patient, and to their parents if the patient is a minor.
Orthodontics
Prepare aligners and retainers, and follow up on appliances in progress.
Take intraoral and extraoral photographs with the digital camera.
Draw up the order forms for external laboratories.
Recycle bands and brackets.
Endodontics
Prepare the workstation: operating microscope, compressor, X-ray unit.
Assist the practitioner during root canal treatment, under the microscope.
Prepare the patient for X-rays and, where required, the Cone Beam.
Send the clinical report and the imaging to the referring dentist.
Dental imaging (CID)
Pass the prescribing practitioner’s referral on to the practitioner.
Prepare the X-ray room and explain to the patient how the examination will proceed.
Check that the documents are signed before the examination: medical history form, information sheet, informed consent, Cone Beam agreement.
Prepare and position the patient: removal of jewellery, lead apron, calibration of the unit (panoramic X-ray, Cone Beam, lateral cephalogram).
Hand the practitioner’s clinical report to the patient, or send it to the referring practitioner.
Hygiene and equipment
You are responsible for keeping your chair clean and tidy throughout the day.
Check instruments in and out of storage.
Monitor and maintain the equipment, and document it.
Raise the internal orders for your chair.
Pack the cases when a practitioner and their team travel to another site.
Patient records and confidentiality
Save X-rays and photographs to the patient’s record, and check that the information entered is accurate.
Delete patient data copied onto the workstation and onto the camera’s memory card once it has been saved to the record.
Remove any printed document from the photocopier immediately.
Hand the record to reception in person once care is complete.
Quality
Update the patient’s treatment record.
Report anything that goes wrong and take part in corrective action: the clinic is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and that certification is upheld chairside.
Give the patient the satisfaction questionnaire.
The profile we are looking for
What is expected
A dental assistant qualification, or equivalent experience in a dental clinic.
Fluent French. A second language among Luxembourgish, German, English and Portuguese is a real advantage — our patients come from all five.
Rigour on hygiene and asepsis, without needing to be reminded.
A feel for children and teenagers, who make up a large share of our orthodontic patients.
Independence: you are responsible for your chair and you have authority over anyone else who uses it.
What counts as a plus
Experience in orthodontics, endodontics or imaging.
Knowledge of Orthotrac, Medicus, Sidexis or Romexis.
A permis B (category B driving licence): our clinics are spread across the country and occasional travel is part of the role.
None of these points rules you out. An application that ticks none of them but speaks to us will be read with the same attention.
The Cone Beam (CBCT), the panoramic X-ray and the lateral cephalogram involve radiation. They are carried out by referral only, from a dentist or a doctor, who defines the area to be examined.
End of this route
This examination can only be carried out by referral.
Speak to your regular dentist or your doctor: they decide whether an imaging examination is needed, which one, and on which area. They will then give you a referral.
